Development of the environmental management function in exhibition activities
Annotation
The aim of this study was to determine the necessary composition of the exhibition industry's environmental protection functions. The object of this study was the Russian exhibition industry, and the subject matter was the industry's environmental functions. The study utilized a method of grouping available data on the actual environmental functions performed by exhibitions, a method of comparing the environmental functions performed by Russian exhibitions with those used in other countries, and index and structural assessment methods of quantitative data to study the development indicators of environmental exhibitions. The study revealed the Russian exhibition industry's low level of involvement in environmental protection activities, which creates a discrepancy between these activities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as the basis for the industry's development. Based on the study's findings, four groups of essential environmental functions of the exhibition industry were substantiated: 1) educational and outreach work on environmental protection, 2) creation of a database of environmental protection and restoration technologies, 3) creation of a register of environmentally friendly goods, works, services, and business entities, 4) raising funds and implementing their own environmental protection activities by exhibition participants. The scientific novelty of this work lies in its comprehensive definition of the exhibition industry's essential environmental protection functions, corresponding to sustainable development declarations, which have not yet been comprehensively formulated. Future research prospects on this topic are related to deepening and expanding the scope of the exhibition industry's environmental functions and substantiating their integration into the state's environmental infrastructure.
